Accurate Pedometers

Accurate pedometers have become part of any health conscious person today. Monitoring your mileage and the number of steps you have walked, is very important so how do you know how accurate your pedometer really is? According a research paper by the University of Tennessee, they used thirteen different pedometers and tested them to find the most accurate pedometers.

Previous research has shown the Yamax SW-200, and the test subjects wore the Yamax on their hips and did up to an average of 9244 steps a day. The researchers found the following to be the most accurate pedometers for daily step counting; New-Lifestyles NL-2000, Yamax Digi-Walker SW-701, Yamax Digi-Walker SW-200, Sportline 330 and the Kenz Lifecorder.

Of these the New-Lifestyles NL-2000 is a great gadget for someone who wants to count their steps as well as measure the calories lost. It has an automatic week long memory which keeps track of your walking. This accurate pedometer counts steps silently and has a clock that starts everyday at midnight. It uses Body Mass Ratio to calculate an estimate of calories burnt. The researchers at the University of Tennessee have named it the most accurate pedometer. The advantages of the New-Lifestyles NL-2000 is that they do both counting steps and measuring calories, smart and silent functioning and has a seven day memory. It is small and lightweight weighing ¼ of an ounce and has a secure metal clip to fasten along with a security strap so you don’t misplace it. The one single disadvantage is that you cannot estimate the distance travelled.

The other accurate pedometer according to the University of Tennessee study is the previously lauded Yamax Digi-Walker SW-200. It is an easy to use pedometer with very good results. This pedometer has been given the gold standard by researchers of accurate pedometers. It has many advantages that it counts steps with great accuracy. It has a flip case that prevents it from being accidentally reset. Finally, according to the study, it is the most accurate pedometer in the market today. It does not count anything other than steps and it does not have a security strap like the NL-2000, so you could find that it drops from your waistband if you stop to use the bathroom. Some of the users have claimed that the clip breaks after a while. But the SW-200 is a handy machine, small and quiet, comes in two colors – black and yellow and a complete walking manual.

The other Yamax to make it to the list is the Yamax Digi-Walker SW-701. It will also measure your steps as well as calories burned. It is small and lightweight and has a highly accurate output. There is a case as with the SW-200 which protects the buttons from being pressed accidentally. But you must use its safety strap and the calorie estimate could vary depending on other pedometers. There is also an upgraded version known as the CW-701 which is an even more accurate pedometer with more features such as a week long memory with two week totals memory for distance, calories and activity times.
